Admissions Decisions: What do they mean?
An admit decision means you’ve received an official offer of admission. To secure your spot, be sure to complete the next steps — set up your myPurdue account, accept your offer, pay your deposit and work through the new student task list.
A College of Agriculture Spring Start offer means you’ve been admitted to begin your Purdue Agriculture experience in the spring semester instead of the fall. As a Spring Start student, you’ll have opportunities to participate in on- and off-campus events before your January start and meet early with an academic advisor to jump-start your college career.
A deny decision means Purdue is unable to offer you a spot in the incoming class. This decision is based on our holistic review process, which considers a variety of factors. View the full criteria we consider for admission.
If you have new information or wish to change your major, you may request reconsideration of your application. You may also be directed to one of our regional campuses for admission. If you’re interested in this option, reach out to the regional campus of your choice to complete the next steps. From there, you can take classes to earn a Purdue degree or pursue a transfer to Purdue West Lafayette to complete your studies.
A defer decision means we need more time to assess space in your desired program before making a final admission decision. We encourage you to use the Letter of Continued Interest form (500 words maximum) to let us know you’re still interested in Purdue; include any updates or additional information you’d like us to consider.
If you have new grades or test scores (if taken but not yet sent to Purdue), we encourage you to submit them.
You will be notified of your final admission decision by March 31.
A waitlist decision means we are unable to offer you a spot in the incoming class at this time. However, space may become available after the May 1 deadline. By accepting a place on the waitlist, you may be considered for admission if a spot in your desired program opens.
Common Questions
How do I know if my application is complete?
Log in and use your application portal to see what material is required to complete your application. If a required item is not listed as received, we have not yet either received or processed it. During the peak application season (October-January), it may take up to two weeks to process an item before it appears as received in your portal. Items are recorded as the date they are received, not the date they were processed.
When will I have a decision?
