A Few Things to Know This Season

Meet Chip Timmons

Chip Timmons is Purdue’s new executive director of Undergraduate Admissions, leading recruitment, evaluation and admission of new undergraduate students. He arrives after 25+ years in selective admissions at Wabash College, his alma mater, where he led record growth as dean for enrollment management. A Frankfort, Indiana, native (and proud Hot Dogs fan), Chip enjoys fishing and beach time with his wife, Stephanie, their sons, Landon and Drake, and their dog, Harvey.

Final High School Transcripts: Urgent for Fall Starters

Students starting at Purdue this fall need their final high school transcript, showing graduation date, sent to Purdue Admissions now. Missing transcripts delay financial aid. Students can confirm receipt in their application portal; processing can take up to two weeks.

Classic Learning Test (CLT)

Indiana state law now requires public colleges and universities to accept the Classic Learning Test (CLT) on equal footing with the SAT and ACT for admissions and scholarship consideration.

What this means for your students:

  • Students may submit CLT scores in place of, or alongside, SAT/ACT scores for admissions decisions.
  • Students are not required to take all three tests — families can choose whichever test best fits their student’s strengths or preferences.

Two Purdue campus locations. One degree.

Purdue now offers programs at two locations — West Lafayette and Indianapolis — under one university.

West Lafayette offers the classic Big Ten college town. Indianapolis offers a city experience where career-ready students prepare for the jobs of tomorrow through high-impact internships, industry connections and direct admission to engineering and other in-demand majors.

Purdue for Pre-Health: More Than You Might Think

Purdue isn’t always the first name that comes to mind for pre-med and pre-health students — but it should be on your radar.

Medical schools care less about a student’s major than their coursework, GPA and genuine academic engagement. At Purdue, pre-health students pursue a wide range of majors — from Biology and Biochemistry to Kinesiology, Psychology, Public Health and even engineering — and go on to medical, dental, physical therapy, occupational therapy and other health professional programs.

What gives Purdue students an edge: specialized pre-health advisors, research opportunities, hands-on clinical experiences and distinctive coursework like Medical Humanities, Spanish for the Professions and Critical Disability Studies — the kind of well-rounded preparation that makes a competitive application.

If you work with Indiana residents, these two programs are worth knowing inside and out. Many families who qualify have never heard of them.

Boiler Gold Grant

Pell-eligible Indiana students, or those with a family adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less, may qualify for a grant that covers remaining tuition, fees and estimated book costs after other gift aid is applied — for all four years. No repayment. Ever.

Purdue Promise

Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars have a dedicated program that goes beyond financial support. In addition to covering significant costs including housing and dining, students receive mentorship, study abroad opportunities and career readiness resources through graduation.

DID YOU KNOW? As the state’s top-ranked public university, we admit 71% of Indiana applicants.

  • There is not a separate application for Purdue University West Lafayette or Purdue University in Indianapolis. When students select Purdue University via the Common App, the opportunity to apply to either or both locations is embedded in the process. Students will select a primary location, West Lafayette or Indianapolis, as well as their primary major. They will also have the option to select an alternate location and major on the application.
  • Not all majors will be available at both locations, and students should select an alternate choice only if they are truly interested in the program. Changing majors or locations is never guaranteed; some programs can be very competitive. Prospective students can expect the same admissions standards for both locations.
  • Purdue University is test expected, meaning we expect applicants to submit SAT or ACT scores. Recognizing that in some exceptional cases, applicants may not have been able to take a test, we allow submission of applications in those cases via the Common App. In 2024, 76.3% of applicants submitted a test score. Of those who received an offer of admission, 92.9% provided a test score. Please encourage your students to submit their scores!
  • Duolingo will be counted for English proficiency: Purdue accepts the Duolingo English Proficiency test as proof of English proficiency. The submission of DET subscores along with the overall result must be submitted to Purdue University Undergraduate Admissions.
